Information SCSI2SD CD-ROM Emulation for CPS-III 3rd Strike
Posted by: Um Jamma Yammy - 03-12-2024, 08:54 PM - Forum: Build Logs - No Replies

Replacing the SCSI CD-ROM drive on the CPS-III with a MicroSD card seems to not be documented so well, so here is my take on it. This was done with the Darksoft Super BIOS. Listing the exact tools I had used to make this work.

This guide assumes you had been using a 3rd Strike CD, and the game has already been flashed to RAM. You are just changing from the CD-ROM to a CD-ROM Emulator.

CD-ROM image used is attached. It is a copy of the CD-ROM that was found in the drive when we got our first CPS-III. From the file name, it was determined to be a Darksoft Multi-CD image that has the Darksoft logo removed from the boot screen.

This version is specifically for the Darksoft BIOS, not a stock 3rd Strike Security Cart. The original thread on this can be found here: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/...leases.36/

If your SCSI2SD board looks like this,

This guide is for you.

Requirements:

SCSI2SD
MicroSD Card (I used a 16GB)
ISO to flash to SD Card
SDCardFormatterV5
HDDRawCopy 1.20 Portable

Preparing the SD card:

1. Download SDCardFormatterV5 and run.

Select your MicroSD card. It should automatically select it if you only have one plugged in. Do not change any settings. Press 'Format'

.png   Screenshot 2024-03-12 152046.png (Size: 13.37 KB / Downloads: 10)

2. Download HDDRawCopy 1.20 Portable and run.

Double click 'FILE' under the BUS column and select the ISO.

Click 'Continue' and now you will select the MicroSD card you have inserted.

Once you hit 'Continue' again, you will have a screen showing your ISO and your SD card. Press 'START' and the copy will begin. Once complete, remove the SD card from your computer and insert to your SC2SCSI board.

Configuring SCSI2SD for CD-ROM:

If you stopped at the above step, and plugged into your CPS-III, this is what you would see,

Which is interesting, because it's seeing a CD-ROM drive and seeing a CD-ROM, but reporting it as invalid. This happened because the SCSI emulator is set to HDD. To change this to CD-ROM, you will need "scsi2sd-util.exe" from the following location: http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.p...I2SD#Files

Downloads for v3/v4/v5.

The file path at the time was: http://www.codesrc.com/files/scsi2sd/lat...ows/64bit/

When opening up, I could see the version that I had. After determining the correct version, I was able to use the one shown.

Opening the application, select the 'Device 1' tab

.png   image (20).png (Size: 20.86 KB / Downloads: 12)

Your device will be set at whatever the outfit that built the board up had it on last. Most likely Hard Drive as that's the most common use for these SCSI emulators. However with CPS-III, we need to emulate a CD-ROM device.

You will set 'Device Type' to 'CD-ROM'

Then set 'Device Size' to '700' and the prefix to 'MB'

.png   Screenshot 2024-03-12 150402.png (Size: 18.98 KB / Downloads: 12)

The should match the above. Now, navigate to 'File' and select 'Save to Device'. The settings should then write to the SCSI2SD and say completed.

When connecting to the CPS-III, use the Ribbon Cable ONLY. You do not require the additional power from the JAMMA edge (on the 4 Pin connector).

Additional Troubleshooting:

Here was an interesting step that one may or may not have to do. I could not get the device to save settings. I kept getting an error.

I re-flashed the firmware from the following location,

Running the 'scsi2sd-util' and navigating to File>Upgrade Firmware

.png   Screenshot 2024-03-12 154808.png (Size: 12.44 KB / Downloads: 12)

I selected the downloaded firmware,

.png   Screenshot 2024-03-12 155003.png (Size: 22.81 KB / Downloads: 12)

The device began to flash the firmware, the device disconnected, then over and over I heard the USB connect sound, then disconnect sound. The device seemed to have bricked.

Going back to  File>Upgrade Firmware, and selecting 'firmware_bundle-v4.8.04.scsi2sd' again, it started the flashing process again, thus not being bricked. The process then showed as completed, and was recognized again.

Setting all my settings to 700MB CD-ROM, navigating to save, there was no longer an error and the parameters had saved.

Everything worked after this. I did not record version numbers but it did in fact update my firmware to 4.4, which I believe previously was 4.1.

Thought this might be useful to include for anyone who got caught on this too.

[Legacy] How to become a Guild Leader at SoulCalibur.com
Posted by: Um Jamma Yammy - 02-24-2024, 01:39 AM - Forum: General Game Chat - No Replies

Found this post on an archived page from the Internet Archive for the Soul Calibur 2 website and thought this was cool,

The Namco Arcade link was archived! Pasting the text below
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In order to become a Guild Leader for a Namco Cybertainment (NCI) location, you will need to go through an approval process.  While it may seem a lot of fuss over very little, we want to ensure that the proper people are given Guild Leader rights for posting at SoulCalibur.com.  The following steps will assist you in this process.

1)  You will need to introduce yourself to the store manager for the location that you wish to become a guild leader for, and let them know your intent to become guild leader.  They may have questions for you, so be prepared to give them answers.

2)  Email us with your SoulCalibur.com login username (we don't want your password, just your username), as well as your real name, and the location information (mall name, city, state, zip, etc) for the location you would like to be a guild leader for.  Include in that email a brief note as to why you would like to assume guild leadership.

3)  We will verify with the store manager of the location that you are interested in that he/she does not have any issue with you becoming a guild leader for their store (if they do, sorry, but we must back our store managers on their decision).

4)  As long as the store manager has no problems with you becoming guild leader, we will transfer the guild over to you on SoulCalibur.com.

In applying to become a guild leader, you agree to the following:

• You will conduct yourself on the SoulCalibur.com forums in a manner that is consistent with the Forum Rules of Conduct in effect here at Namco Arcade.

• You recognize that you are not an employee of Namco Cybertainment Inc., and that you will neither be requested to perform any labor on behalf of Namco Cybertainment Inc., nor shall you be compensated for any time spent on any guild events you choose to run.

• You understand that guild leadership may be revoked at any time at our discretion for any or no reason.

•  You will not post events of an inappropriate nature, nor use the ability to post events as a method by which to defame Namco Cybertainment, its affiliates, subsidiaries, or employees.

•  You understand that violation of this agreement may lead to removal of your guild leadership abilities, and possibly the revocation of your right to post upon SoulCalibur.com and/or Namco Arcade.

Rainbow 02/16/24 - Weekly Update
Posted by: Aunt Haruka - 02-16-2024, 06:23 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

General :

Hello everyone ! We're on break this Saturday after all , and all event times had been updated earlier in the week on Discord and announced for a February 24th re-opening . No update possible last week but we have just a few updates this week , one is a pretty big one !

Hardware :

We have taken receipt of our new " Main Event Cabs " , the Namco Blanc !

These cabs will be used at the current location as our streaming cabs to be used during nice weather bracket events .

There is a full Araiguma Battle art kit being designed to take the place of all the current artwork currently displayed on the machines . At the new location , during larger events where we use the upstairs venues , these will be our main stage setups .

Future Location :

Big news ! The Elm St. Ramp is now open !

This will be our street facing entrance for the Room 28 location when we move . All food deliveries will be made here or ride pickup/dropoffs .

Previously it was stated that work to begin on Room 28 would be started after the ADA project was completed , however there is still a new matter which has to be taken care of now in higher priority for the Community Center .

The asbestos flooring in the lower level is getting old and worn and requires to be covered or replaced. The UCIMC has received a grant to entomb the asbestos with new flooring , thus reflooring the entire B1 level of the building . This includes Room 28 as it is to become a rentable space .

There is currently no timeline on this project , contractors are actively going over the project . We should make some more information on this soon ! A mid-summer competition is not yet out of the question . This is a massive overhaul that will disrupt current tenants so this could push us out a bit further .

We're in no hurry to leave our current residence so we're good !

Information MBON - Setup / Powering Guide
Posted by: Aunt Haruka - 02-04-2024, 02:43 AM - Forum: Staff General - No Replies

When MBON is requested , there are one of two ways this will be handled .

Option A - All PS4s connected :

In the event all PS4s are connected from the prior weekend , there are two Power Strips . One for Consoles only and another for A/V . Both are labeled .
On the end of the A/V Power Strip , press the button and a green and blue light will illuminate .

All monitors should automatically power on except for Station A2 .

There is a remote on the rear for Station A2's monitor ,

Press the following button on the rear of the Live Monitor to power it .

Option B - A PS4 needs added :

If a PS4 is not plugged in , the only cable possibly required by the person bringing the console is the power cable . We are working on supplying all of these . Currently , all Networking and Video cables are provided and labeled . There will be 3 cables per setup .

If a power cable is not provided , there will be an open available outlet on the following power strip at the end of the table against the wall .

Power on the AV Power Strip , Station A2s monitor and the Live Monitor as shown in Option A above .

--

Ensure that none of the following boxes are touched , these have EDID information stored that are configured for the Live Monitor , Station Monitor and Stream Video Distribution . These devices are only shown for troubleshooting as their labeling will be important for remote support .

In a situation where a PS4 displays no video , it will need to be isolated . There is a common problem of the HDMI connector on the PS4 lifting off its pads and losing connection . The first device in this chain to be tested is the PS4 . There is a " Bench Use Only " monitor which can be directly used with the PS4 , located in the base of the ITG setup . This includes a known working and tested HDMI cable .

If video continues to not display , please replace the PS4 with another device that outputs HDMI . The Surface Tablet used to display shows above the Big CRT is a good test device for this .

If this display does not appear on it's Monitor + Live Monitor , please contact Yams . There is a problem deeper in the chain which is not as easily resolved .

If this were to happen , we will document this in a troubleshooting guide . Information on this setup can be found HERE

Information Closing Guide
Posted by: Aunt Haruka - 02-04-2024, 01:09 AM - Forum: Staff General - Replies (5)

GENERAL

This Guide is in a total of 5 sections :

1.) General Cleaning Guidelines - You are Here
2.) Upstairs Hall
3.) H2H Room
4.) Salty Bet Station
5.) The Cage
6.) Downstairs Hall

General Shutdown entails powering down all Windows based setups , turning off power strips , bagging up recycling and trash and taking out , then turning all the lights out .

Empty the main water tank in the yard out back . The main water tank can then be set back on it's shelf , with the lid left unpressed . This prevents most of any dust from getting in , also allows the tank to breath off anything inside , as shown ,

Any leftover food should be offered out to those who need it most first ( if known ) then the rest is up for grabs . Whatever leftovers are not taken can be thrown out back . Excluding sweets and rice or anything spicy . The rice can cause serious harm to birds , the sweets can cause dental problems in animals that can't brush their teeth or see a dentist or anything spicy can cause discomfort in the animals that eat it .

Dry items such as salty snacks , breads ( Pizza without hot peppers ) , etc can be dumped on the wood stump next to the water bowl ,

All other leftovers ( Restaurant foods ) can be tossed out near the shed out back as these foods are not guaranteed to be consumed by animals , the rest will be consumed by insects or bugs and eventually decompose .

Unopened drinks ( around the place or in cases ) or condiment bottles left out at the end of the night can be put in the downstairs refrigerator . Alcohol left behind , capped , can be left on The Table . These generally do not fit in the fridge , the upstairs fridge does not have space for them either UNLESS requested to be chilled for the following weekend .

Any open drinks should be poured into the MEIJER bucket , stashed under the utility sink where the water tank sits .

This should be carefully poured into the toilet ONLY and flushed . Do not pour this outside .
